5 Questions To Ask When You First Meet Your Physician

Your health and money are not things that you should take lightly – and neither should your primary care physician. At Direct Primary Care Associates, we have a very highly skilled team of physicians that can fit your needs at a low monthly membership rate.

Often, patients are too trusting of their physician, which can lead to disappointment if they are not receiving the proper care. To ensure you are getting the quality care you deserve, we have created a list of five questions that you should feel comfortable asking your new physician.

1. Will I see you each time I come into the doctor’s office?
It’s unfortunate that patients even have to ask this question, but often times some physicians’ schedules get behind throughout the day and they are forced to send someone else to cover the appointment. This is very frustrating as you probably have waited weeks to get into an appointment only to find out that you will not be seeing the physician.

At DPCA, you will ALWAYS see your specified physician. We are focused on building a relationship with you and your family. We want to be there for all your health needs or questions. Our goal is to redefine your experience of going to the doctor.

2. How long do I have to wait to get an appointment?
When you need care, you need it as soon as possible. You don’t want to wait a year to receive care. This is an important question to ask your physician as you want to be able to schedule appointments quickly.

For DPCA members, we always strive to care for you when you want with same-day or next-day appointments (Monday through Friday), all from the comfort of your phone, computer, or tablet.

3. How long can I spend with you at each visit?
Asking this question allows you to know exactly how much time you have to address any concerns or questions you may have about your health. Knowing this information also allows you to plan out your day in advance. It’s important to have a doctor that allows you to ask as many questions as possible. However, it is best to avoid doctors that are on a tight schedule and will leave the appointment whether your questions are answered or not.

At DPCA, we have extended appointments that allow you to have all your questions answered. Visits are unrushed and are typically 30-60 minutes – which is very long compared to the standard 8-minute appointment at many doctor’s offices. Our membership provides office visits with plenty of one-on-one time with your doctor, allowing you the opportunity to take proactive steps toward a healthier life.

4. Will I be able to talk to my physician after hours?
It’s important to be able to contact your physician when it is convenient for you. Your physician may not be able to answer every call or email ASAP, but it is important that your physician still makes you a priority.

At DPCA we are always with you. We meet you where you are with 24/7 access to your primary care provider via phone, text, email, or teleconference.

5. Will you be able to tell me how much things will cost?
Not all physicians take the time to research how much prescriptions, physical exams, or other procedures will cost. They just order the prescription or run the test and assume your insurance will cover it. Unfortunately, that is not always the case, and you are left paying out of pocket for a costly procedure.

At DPCA, we do not keep the costs hidden. For patients with insurance, these tests will be billed to your insurance by the lab, pharmacy, or radiology provider in the usual manner. For those without insurance, most labs performed in our office are included in the monthly fee. If not, you will get your labs at cost and ZERO markup. We will work hard to find ways to significantly reduce the cost of tests, x-rays, labs, and prescriptions whenever possible. For services or medications not covered, they will be passed on to you at cost.

At DPCA, our physicians have fewer patients making you a priority. By joining Direct Primary Care Associates, you won’t even be scared of another doctor’s appointment!

We are still accepting new patients at all our locations, and we would love to have you! If you have any further questions or would like to schedule a visit, please email Tim at Tim@DirectPCA.com
